Kids Speaking Spanish (KSS) offers a full-time Spanish immersion program in California's Bay Area for children aged two to six. Research shows that early language immersion learners benefit cognitively, exhibiting greater nonverbal problem-solving abilities and more flexible thinking. KSS students flourish in our immersion program under the caring instruction of highly-experienced Maestras from Spanish-speaking countries across the globe.
KSS began as a modest private school serving a small group of students; over the past 20 years it has become a sought-after and beloved Spanish immersion program for preschoolers in five Bay Area locations: Albany, Oakland - Montclair, Oakland - Lincoln Highlands, Walnut Creek and San Jose - Willow Glen.
KSS Kindergarten will be offered at our Oakland-Lincoln Highlands and San Jose campus locations.
Our Programs
At KSS Preschools, children learn through play! Our maestras rely on a combination of play-based and academically-focused methods to support cognitive, physical, language, and socio-emotional development. Opportunities to learn fundamental concepts in Math, Science, and Language Arts arise throughout the day in our KSS classrooms and outdoor environments. In addition, our curriculum is designed for Spanish language acquisition through everyday interactions as well as creative activities such as dancing, singing, cooking, art projects, and games. Our thoughtfully-designed curriculum prepares students for kindergarten and provides a solid foundation in Spanish, Math, Humanities/Language Arts, and Science.
Summer Camp
Our summer program is the perfect introduction into the exciting world of summer camps, with a unique blend of fun, learning, and cultural exploration. Our program is thoughtfully designed for children starting at 2.5 years old up to those transitioning into first grade this fall. Each session at KSS Summer Camp is a travel-themed adventure to different regions of the world. As your little explorer navigates through Spanish and Latin American cultures, they will be immersed in the Spanish language, guided by our native-speaking teachers.
Benefits of a Bilingual Education
Language immersion for young children has been shown to improve cognitive, social, and emotional skills. Each class at KSS Preschool is taught in Spanish by a team of fully qualified maestras. In our youngest (2’s) classes, children speak the language they feel comfortable speaking. Their bilingual teachers respond in Spanish, supporting their words with body language, context, gestures, intonation, and visual aides. Parents are typically amazed by how quickly their child begins to understand basic directions and information in Spanish.
As children progress to the 3’s and 4’s classes, Spanish is spoken exclusively by teachers. By the time our preschoolers are ready to graduate, they are speaking Spanish comfortably in the classroom and other contexts.
